Sustainability at ColorCote
Steel Made Better is not just about making sustainable changes for the future of our environment, but also for our people and our community. Our commitment to the betterment of steel is woven into every aspect of our purpose, from the partnerships we make with those driving positive change in the community to the materials we use and the processes we implement.
A Good Coat is When Strength is Built from the Inside and Out
Our people, customers, and community are at the heart of what drives our purpose, Steel Made Better. We pride ourselves on fostering a diverse and inclusive culture that celebrates, nurtures, and empowers our people—the backbone of ColorCote. By building a supportive and safe environment, we can challenge our comfort zones, ensuring that the journey to making better happen is continuous for us all as individuals and as a collective.
For our customers, the betterment of steel means showing up where it matters. Our service goes beyond supplying and delivering colour-coated steel and aluminium roofing and cladding products on spec and on time. We also offer site tours eligible for CPD points and have a team of technical sales managers available for advice on maintenance and specification support.
We strongly believe in the power of community and actively seek partnerships with organizations and initiatives that align with our values and contribute to making better happen. By supporting local projects and engaging with community leaders, we aim to make a meaningful impact beyond our business operations. Through the betterment of steel, we make better happen for our people, our customers, and our community.

Walking the talk – The betterment of steel
In 2021, we set out to reduce our carbon footprint, marking this as one of the first steps in our journey to the betterment of steel. We replaced our old gas-fired ovens with new Near Infrared (NIR) ovens. These ovens heat up quickly and turn off when not in use, unlike gas ovens that need to stay on. This change has cut our CO2 emissions by 59% per tonne of product painted.
Sustainable Materials
Our products, like AlumiGard, MagnaFlow, and ZinaCore, are designed to be sustainable. Steel is highly recyclable and can be reused many times without losing strength. We use water-based paints and work to lower the carbon footprint of our products, so you can trust in the sustainability of ColorCote.
Saying you’re sustainable is easy. Proving it is hard.
When it comes to charting the steps in our journey to making better happen, independent assessments and accreditations are crucial to showing up honestly. That’s why we’re proud to work with and hold several certifications that reflect our commitment to sustainability and quality:
- Toitū carbonreduce™ certification: Achieved under Fletcher Steel, this certification demonstrates our commitment to measuring, managing, and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.
- Global GreenTag™ GreenRate™ Level A certification: This certification covers our roll-formed metal roofing, cladding, flashing, and rainwater systems.
- Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): Independently audited and accredited, our EPD quantifies the environmental impact of our products.
- Declare Labels: Our products, including ColorCote MagnaFlow, have Declare labels, which provide transparency about the materials used and their environmental impact.
- Green Star Certification: Our products contribute towards points in multiple Green Building Rating Systems, including Homestar and Green Star.
